Cell Functions Flashcards
Cell membrane
Regulates the movement of molecules in and out of the cell.
Cytoplasm
Is the area of the protoplasm outside of the nucleus where nutrients are absorbed
Nucleus
Is the control Center for the cell and contains hereditary information
Nucleolus
Is a small spherical structure located inside the nucleus
Cell wall
Protect and support plant cell, pass gases, water, and some minerals through small pores
Vacuole
Fluid-filled spaces that store sugars, minerals, and proteins in the cyto of cells
Mitochondria
Organelles that provide cells with needed energy, and are the Centers of the cell respiration
Ribosomes
The site of protein synthesis in the cell (organize and build proteins for the body)
Endoplasmuc reticulum (ER)
A series of canals that carry material throughout the cytoplasm, which often transport the proteins made by the ribosomes
Golgi apparatus (Golgi body)
An organelle that packs and stores protein molecules
Lysosomes
Sac like structures that break down large molecules and which can digest the cell that houses them
Plastids
These organelles function as factories for the production of sugars or as storehouses for starch and some pigments
Chloroplast
Contain chlorophyll, which is used in photosynthesis
Chromoplasts
Stores the orange and yellow pigments
Amyloplasts (leucoplasts)
Colorless plastids that’s store starch
