Cell division and cell cycle Flashcards
What is the growth section of the cell called?
Interphase
What is the divison half of the cell called?
M phase
What are the divisions of interphase?
G0,G1,M and G2
What are the division of the M phase?
Prophase, Prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase and Telophase
What are DNA damage checkpoints?
Checkpoints at intervals to ensure that the DNA coded is correct
How is DNA replication restricted?
In the S phase of interphase, MCM molecules are attached onto the DNA at the origin of replication. This replication allows for the placement of DNA Helycase, and once the dna has been replicated, the MCM complexes are no longer in the position to allow the attachment of DNA Helicase, in essence not allowing it to replicate again
How is the cell cycle analysed?
Flow cytometer / fluorescence activated cell sorter
