Cell Division Flashcards
What are the two types of cell division?
This would include Somatic and Reproductive cell division.
What does Reproductive Cell Division create?
This would create gametes used for forming the next generation of sexually reproductive organisms.
These are called Germ cells.
What are the steps to Somatic Cell Division?
The steps for Somatic cell division are including calcium storage, protein synthesis and lipid metabolism
What is Homologous Chromosomes?
They are the 2 chromosomes that make up each pair.
What are all the steps of Somatic Cell reproduction?
Interphase and Mitotic Phase.
What happens in All the steps of interphase in Somatic cells?
There are 3 parts involved with interphase,
g1, S phase, g2.
What is a Somatic cell?
This is any other cell in the body then a Germ cell/Gamete.
What happens in G1 phase of Interphase?
In this phase the cell is metabolically active and starts to replicate its organelles and Cytosolic components but nots its DNA.
This last up to 8-10 hours.
This is different for Embryonic cells and cancer cells the time can vary.
What happens in the S phase of Somatic cell replication?
This phase is a interval between G1 and G2 in the last 8 hours of this phase is when DNA replication occurs.
What does it mean when a cell is in the g0 Phase and what type of cells are they?
This is when a cell stays in the G1 Phase and they maybe aren’t meant to go past this point.
Most nervous cells are in the g0 Phase.
What happens during the G2 Phase in Somatic cell division?
During this phase is when Enzymes, and other proteins are synthesized in preparation for cell division.
This phase last around 4-6 hours.
What occurs in the Mitotic Phase?
In this portion of the Somatic cell division it consist of two parts called Mitosis (Nuclear division) and Cytokinesis the formation of 2 identical cells.
What occurs during Nuclear Division (Mitosis)?
This is when
