Cell Division Flashcards
What is stage 1 of the cell cycle?
The cell grows bigger and the DNA replicates
What happens if stage 2 of the cell cycle/ mitosis
The 2 full sets if chromosones are pulled either side of the cell and the nucleus replicates
What happens in stage 3 of the cell cycle?
Cytoplasm and cell membrane divide to form 2 (daughter) cells
What is an adult stem cell
A stem cell from an adult or child and are limited in what they can differentiate into e.g bone marrow into red blood cells
What are the advantages and disadvantages of adults stem cells
Adv- safe for donor and fewer ethical issues
Dis adv- wait time for donor and only limited in use
What is an embryonic stem cell
A cell from an early human life (embryo) and can differentiate into any type of cell i the human body
What are the advantages and disadvantages of embryonic stem cells
Adv- can hale with lots of stuff and usually no donor needed
Dis adv- ethical issues with young life and risk of infection in patient
What are plant meristem stem cells
Stem cells from the roots and shoots of a plant and can differentiate into any plant cell and can also clone plants
What are the stages of therapeutic cloning
