Cell division Flashcards
1
Q
What is cell division?
A
- This is the process of where cells divide is the process of mitosis
2
Q
What happens in mitosis?
A
- This is where a parent cell forms 2 identical daughter cells
3
Q
What are the 6 stages of mitosis?
A
- Interphase
- Prophase
- Metaphase
- Anaphase
- Telophase
- Cytokinesis
4
Q
What happens in the interphase? (Stage 1)
A
- The DNA in the chromosomes duplicates itself
5
Q
What happens in the prophase? (Stage 2)
A
- The new copies of DNA condense and the membrane which surrounds the nucleus disappears
6
Q
What happens in the metaphase? (Stage 3)
A
- The chromosomes and the copies of the chromosomes line up in the middle of the cells
7
Q
What happens in the anaphase? (Stage 4)
A
- They are then separated to different ends of the cells
8
Q
What happens in the telophase? (Stage 5)
A
- The membranes form around these chromosomes which are at different ends of the cell
9
Q
What happens in cytokinesis? (Stage 6)
A
- The cell membrane pinches into the middle which then eventually divides into 2 new identical daughter cells
