Cell Diffrentiation Flashcards
Terminal differentiation
Denotes a loss of ability to divide by mitosis
Differentiation
Process by which genetically identical cells acquire specialized characteristics needed for their distinct roles in the organism. This encompasses both biochemical and morphological/structural changes.
Determination
The molecular mechanism and cues which commit a cell to a particular lineage, regardless of any external sign of this commitment.
Induction
Process by which cells adjacent to a developing cell influence it’s differentiation behavior. This promotes development of organized tissues and organs with the proper cells in the proper places
Epigenetic control
Refers to mechanism that lead to heritable phenotypes without changing DNA sequences
