About 4,000 genes are active in all cells, performing basic functions like respiration. They are needed in all cells but aren’t specific to any one type.
What happens to gene expression in differentiated cells?
Different genes are switched on or off in specialised cells, causing them to make specific proteins and perform particular functions.
