Cell Cycle- Intro and Interphase Flashcards
What happens to SA:Vol. ratio as cells get larger
-what issue arises, so what does the cell need to do, otherwise, what will happen?
-what must new growth come from instead?
-what is the cell cycle, and what 2 phases does it contain?
-it decreases along with efficiency
-the plasma membrane becomes too small to meet its metabolic needs, so it needs to STOP growing, or it will die
-addition of new cells/ cell division
-the life cycle of a cell, contains the interphase and mitotic phase
Interphase: how much time (%) of the cycle
-what does it do
-3 stages
-90%
-preparing for mitosis
-G1 (gap 1 phase), S phase (synthesis), G2 (gap 2 phase)
Gap 1 (G1)
-what happens in this phase
S Phase (synthesis)
-what happens in this phase
G2 (Gap 2 phase)
-what happens in this phase
- cell grows in size and mass
- copy of cells DNA is made, each chromatin is duplicated and forms a pair of sister chromatids (each is identical copy of parent chromosome)
- cell makes materials needed for mitosis, specifically cytoplasm organelles. the most important one is the centrosome
