Cell Cycle and Mitosis Flashcards
Cell cycle allows cells to:
Grow, repair, and reproduce
GRR!
The period of growth and development:
Interphase
Cell cycle is composed of
Interphase and period of cell division
During interphase, what is the status of the cell?
Life as usual.
A cell entering G1 will have what number of chromosomes?
Diploid, 2n
During G1, chromosomes are:
unwound
If G1 extends indefinitely, it is called
G0
What occurs during the synthesis (S) phase?
DNA is replicated and connected by a centromere.
What do you call duplicate copies of DNA?
Sister cromatids.
G2 is a time for:
Getting resources and double checking. Centrosomes are duplicated.
What are the two parts of cell division?
Mitosis and cytokenesis.
During early prophase:
Chromatin condenses, nucleoli dissapear, centrosomes move and gain spindles
During late prophase:
Spindles attach to centromeres (kinetochores), nuclear envelope dissolves
During anaphase,
the cell enlongates.
During telophase
Everything goes back to normal
