Cell Cycle Flashcards
Why do cells reproduce/divide?
to replenish dead cells
to grow
to repair damaged cells
What are the 3 stages of interphase and what are their purposes?
G1-Cell doubles + organelles double
S-DNA replication
G2-Protines prepare the cell for division
What is happening during the interphase?
It is doing its job
What are the 4 stages of mitosis?
Prophase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophase
PMAT
What are the 4 stages of mitosis’s purposes? (P)
P-(first) nuclear membrane disappears, chromosomes coil
What are the 4 stages of mitosis’s purposes? (M)
M-(Middle) chromosomes line up
What are the 4 stages of mitosis’s purposes? (A)
A-(Away) moves to opposite sides of the cell
What are the 4 stages of mitosis’s purposes? (T)
T-(two) you have 2 nuclei
What does a plant cell look like and divide?
Square. it divides differently because of the cell wall. it has to use a cell plate.
What does an animal cell look like and divide?
circle. it divides like you would divide putty.
What is another name for cell division?
Cytokinesis
what is the cytokinesis purpose?
it divides the cytoplasm.
Do Eukareotes or Procaryotes go through mitosis and why?
Eukaryotes because they have a nucleus.
What is a Prokaryote?
(first) no nucleus
What is a Eukaryote?
(you) has a nucleus
