Cell Cycle Flashcards
To learn about the cell cycle
1
Q
What does Colchicine do?
A
Binds to tubulin (a component of microtubules) and prevents seperation of the chromatids.
2
Q
What does the prevention of the seperation of chromatids do?
A
Prevents cells from progressing into anaphase, accumulating in metaphase.
3
Q
Formula for calculating the length of the cell cycle
A
Length of Cell Cycle= 100%/A (% metaphase after colchicine) - B (% metaphase before colchicine) x H (hours)
4
Q
Formula for the duration of a phase
A
duration of ‘phase’ = length of cell cycle x % of cells in ‘phase’ in untreated cells / 100
