Cell Cycle Flashcards
What is the first stage in the cell cycle?
Interphase
Chromatin in the nucleus condenses to form chromosomes. The pairs of centrioles move to opposite sides of the nucleus. Spindle fibers form a bridge between the ends of the cell. The nuclear envelope breaks down.
Mitosis- Prophase
The chromosomes line up across the center of the cell. Each chromosome attaches to a spindle fiber at its centromere.
Mitosis - Metaphase
The centromeres spilt. The two chromatids separate, and each chromatid becomes a new chromosomes. The new chromosomes move to opposite ends of the cell. The cell stretches out as the opposite ends are pushed apart.
Mitosis- Anaphase
The chromosomes begin to stretch out and lose there rod-like appearance. A new nuclear envelope forms around each region of chromosomes.
Mitosis- Telophase
The cell membrane pinches in sound the middle of the cell. The cell splits in two. Each daughter cell ends up with identical set of chromosomes and about half the organelles.
Cytokinesis
The regular sequence of growth and division that cells undergo
Cell cycle
What are the three things that happen in interphase?
- Cell grows to full size
- Copies DNA
- Prepares for division
What forms in plant cells in the middle of the cell during Cytokinesis?
Cell plate
What are the two side of the DNA ladder made of?
Deoxyribose and phosphates
What are the four nitrogen bases in DNA?
Adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine
What does Adenine pair up with in DNA?
Thymine
What does Guanine pair up with in DNA?
Cytosine
What does DNA do to replicate?
Unwind and separate then match up with other particles of the DNA
