Cell Cycle Flashcards
What are the three phases of interphase?
G1, S, G2
What are the two parts of the cell cycle other than interphase?
Mitosis (nucleus splits), cytokinesis (cytoplasm splits)
What happens in G1 and G2?
- Organelles replicate
- Cell size increase
- Protein synthesis
- Respiration
What happens in the synthesis phase?
DNA replication (only in s phase)
What are the 3 checkpoints?
- G1 checkpoint
- G2 checkpoint
- Spindle assembly checkpoint
What does the G1 checkpoint check for?
- Cell size
- DNA damage
What happens if the requirements of this checkpoint are not satisfied and what may this be due to?
The cell goes to a resting state and leaves the cell cycle (G0)
Due to - Differentiation
- DNA Damage
What does the G2 checkpoint check for?
DNA replication error
And same checks at G1
Where does the spindle fibre checkpoint take place and what does it check for?
- At mitosis
- Check for chromosome attachment to spindle
