Cell Components Flashcards
Nucleus
The cell’s control center that holds DNA
Cell Membrane
A thin outer layer that protects the cell and control’s what goes in and out
Cytoplasm
A jelly-like fluid that fills the cell and serves as a medium for intracellular transport
Mitochondria
The cell’s power plants that produce ATP
Ribosomes
Make and process proteins for the cell
Endoplasmic Reticulum
A network of tubules that helps make and transport proteins and fats
Golgi Apparatus
The cell’s post office that modifies, sorts, and transports proteins and lipids
Lysosomes
The cell’s trash collectors that break down waste
Vacuole
A storage space for water, nutrients, and waste
Rough ER
Provides protein synthesis and folding into their proper structure
Smooth ER
Provides lipid synthesis
Microfilaments (Actin Filaments)
Involved in cell movement, shape maintenance, and muscle contraction
Intermediate Filaments
Provide structural support and stability to cells
Microtubules
Involved in maintaining cell shape, intracellular transport, and cell division
Nucleolus
Produce ribosomes and help synthesize ribosomal RNA
