Cell Components Flashcards
What components do plant AND animal cells share?
Nucleus, Mitochondria, Cell Membrane, Cytoplasm
What is the function of the nucleus?
Controls the cell and contains genetic info to create new cells
What components are only found in plant cells?
Chloroplast, Vacuole, Cell Wall
What is the function of the cell membrane?
It is a barrier around the cell which controls what enters and exits the cell.
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
It acts as a platform to hold the other organelles and it is where all the chemical reactions take place.
What is the function of the mitochondrion?
This is where the cells respiration happens, it transfers energy to the organism?
Define organelle.
The equivalent of an organ in a cell
and have specific jobs to perform in the cell.
What is the function of the chloroplast?
This is where photosynthesis happens, it is made of a green substance called chlorophyll.
What is the function of the vacuole?
It is a watery structure called cell sap, it keeps the cell firm.
What is the function of the cell wall?
It strengthens the cell providing support. It is made of a tough fibre called cellulose.
What is the only type of cell without a nucleus?
Red blood cell.
