Cell
The Basic unit of living things.
Cell(Plasma membrane)
Thin, flexible layer that surrounds the cell. It controls what comes in and what goes out the cell.
Cell Wall
A semi-rigid layer on the outside of plant cells.Made of cellulose.
Chloroplast
The organelle is the site of photosynthesis. it absorbs light energy to make glucose.
Cytoplasm
A jelly-like fluid within the cell is the site of many cellular reactions. it also acts as a medium for the transport of materials within the cell.
Mitochondrion(Mitochondria singluar)
An organelle that is the site of aerobic cellular respiration.
Nucleus
Regulates all cell activities. Contains the DNA of the cell.
Organelle
A specific structure within the cell that performs a particular function.
Ribosomes
Organelles that are the site of protein synthesis(Where proteins are made)
Autotrophs
Organisms(Like Plants) that can make their own foods.
Chlorophyll
A pigment protein within the plant cells that absorbs energy from sunlight during photosynthesis.
Glucose
A simple carbohydrate/sugar created during the photosynthesis process.
Palisade Cells
Regular shaped cells in the upper layer of leaves that contain many chloroplasts and where photosynthesis occurs.
Photosynthesis
The process used by plants to create glucose(Food). Carbon Dioxide is combined with water using light energy to create glucose.
Starch
A carbohydrate that is created by joining glucose molecules together. Used to store energy in plants.
