Cell Biology Flashcards
1
Q
microfilaments
A
composed of actin, very small, G actin monomers in equilibrium with F actin polymers
Functions: sol-gel conversion of cytoplasm; microvillar shape and contraction; structural reinforcement by stress fibers
2
Q
intermediate filaments
A
function in structural support and resistance to mechanical stress composed of spectrin and keratins
3
Q
microtubules
A
long cylinders of tubulin that radiate from the centrioles; important for cell movement and as conduits for vesicle transport;
4
Q
MTOC microtubul organizing center
A
usually the centrosome; each centrosome has two centrioles which are made up of 9 microtubule triplets; centrioles replicate prior to mitosis and make up the mitotic spindle
