A
  • May decrease the effectiveness of ACE inhibitors.
  • May increase plasma lithium levels.
  • Fluconazole increases plasma levels.
  • Celecoxib is an inhibitor of cytochrome P450 2C9, therefore use with caution with drugs metabolized via this pathway.
  • May increase the effects of warfarin

Where are the contraindications to celecoxib?

A
  • Contraindicated in patients have experienced asthma, urticaria, or allergic type reaction after taking sulfonamides, aspirin, or other NSAIDs.
  • Contraindicated for the treatment of peri-operative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
  • NSAIDs may cause an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infraction, and stroke.
  • Use with extreme caution in patients with a history of ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • NSAIDs have been involved in rare cases of GI bleeding incidents.
  • Abnormalities in liver enzyme tests have occurred during treatment.
  • Monitor liver function periodically.
  • Avoid use in patients with advanced Rena disease and during nursing.
  • Avoid use in the late stages of pregnancy because of the possibility of premature closure of the doctors arteriosus.

A
  • May be taken without regard to meals
  • Promptly report any signs of ulceration and bleeding to physician
  • Avoid aspirin or products containing aspirin without first consulting a physician
  • If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If it is closer to the time of your next does than the dose you missed, skip the missed dose and return to your dosing schedule.
