Antibiotic - treat infections caused by bacteria

What is the pharmacology of cefazolin?
A
Interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis resulting in cell lysis and death

What are the indications for cefazolin?
A
Open fracture of long bone (i.e femur, tibia, fibula, humerus, radius, ulna)
Traumatic amputation of long bone

What are the 2 contraindications for using cefazolin?
A
Allergy/Adverse drug reaction
Immediate or severe hypersensitivity to penicillin or carbapenems (class of antibiotic)
