Inspect abdomen for contour (flat, scaphoid, distended, rounded)

Subjective questions

Assess oral mucosa for moisture, color, lesion using universal precautions (lips, baccalaureate mucosa, gums)

Inspection of teeth for number, color, restoration, alignment

Inspect external eye structures (conjunctiva, sclera, cornea) for moisture and discharge using universal precautions

Assess gross hearing ability

HEENT Focused Exam

A

Inspection (eyes): eyes for symmetry, corneal light reflex, convergence, accommodation

Inspection (ears): external structures (auricle, tragus , mastoid) using universal precautions, whisper test

Inspection (nose): nasal membranes, each nostril for latency

Inspection (head): frontal, maxillary sinuses, cranium/ scalp for symmetry, shape, masses, lesions, tenderness using universal precautions

Inspection (anterior and posterior lymph nodes): occipital, post-auricular, preauricular, submandibular (submaxillary), submental, anterior cervical chain, posterior cervical chain, supraclaviular using universal precautions

Palpation (nose) using universal precautions

Palpation (head): frontal, maxillary sinuses, cranium/ scalp for symmetry, shape, masses, lesions, tenderness using universal precautions
