What are the duties of the client under CDM 2015?
Implement or appropriately delegate health and safety management.
Provide the pre-construction information.
Appoint the principal designer and principal contractor.
Notify HSE of the project.
Verify the Construction Phase Plan.
Verify the PD & PC are performing their duties.
Maintain the Health and Safety file.
What are the duties of a designer under CDM 2015?
Ensure the client is aware of their duties.
Eliminate or reduce risks.
What is the role of the principal designer?
The principal designer is responsible during the planning and design stages for pre-empting health and safety risk, and implementing risk mitigation measures.
The principle designer will distribute information, and ensure the designers and adhering to the general principles of risk prevention. Principle designers are also responsible for delivering the health and safety file to the client.
What are the duties of the contractor under CDM 2015?
Ensure the client is aware of their duties.
Produce the construction phase plan.
Manage the health and safety of their employees.
Provide adequate welfare facilities.
what is the role of the principal contractor?
To manage, review and update the CPP.
Manage health and safety on site.
Ensure other contractors manage their own work and co-ordinate their work safely with each other.
Collect the information for the health and safety file from the other contractors.
What is a construction phase plan?
A CPP reflects the project’s size and nature of risk.
What is required when there is more than one contractor operating on a site?
In projects with more than one contractor, there is a requirement for additional duty holders, notably the principle designer and the principle contractor, who need to be appointed by the client in writing.
What is the difference in CDM responsibility on residential projects?
Typically residential projects will see the CDM responsibilities absorbed by the contractor, as they are the informed professional.
What is included in the pre-construction information?
Information about the site, existing services and systems, and any hazards.
It is the client’s responsibility to provide this information, however this duty may be carried out by the principal designer where appointed.
What is included in the construction phase plan?
The construction phase plan, produced by the contractor, or principal contractor where there is more than one contractor, is the health and safety management plan for the project.

Details of residual risks.

What is an F10 notification?
An F10 notification is the notice in writing submitted to the HSE, providing details about the project.
Once submitted, a copy of the F10 must be displayed on site.
What makes a construction project notifiable to the HSE?
The HSE requires notice where a project;
Lasts over 30 days with more than 20 workers at any one time OR the project will last more than 500 person-days.
