CDI#1 Flashcards
Demerol
C-narcotic analgesic
D- Merperidine is a synthetic narcotic w/ sedative, and analgesic properties comparable to morphine, but without hemodynamic side effects.
I- moderate to severe pain

Diazepam
C-antianxiety, anticonvulsant,sedative,hypnotic
D-diazepam is a benzo sedative and skeletal muscle relaxant that reduces tremors, induces amnesia, and reduces the incidence and recurrence of seizures.
It relaxes muscle spasms in orthopedic injuries and produces amnesia for painful procedures
I- major motor seizures, status epilepticus, premed for cardioversion, muscle tremors due to injury, and acute anxiety
Valium
C-antianxiety, anticonvulsant,sedative,hypnotic

I- major motor seizures, status epilepticus, premed for cardioversion, muscle tremors due to injury, and acute anxiety
Lorazepam
C- sedative
D- lorazepam is the most potent benzo available.
It has strong antianxiety, sedative, hypnotic, and skeletal muscle relaxant properties w/ a relatively short half life.
I-sedation for cardioversion, and status epilepticus
Ativan
C- sedative
D- lorazepam is the most potent benzo available.
It has strong antianxiety, sedative, hypnotic, and skeletal muscle relaxant properties w/ a relatively short half life.
I-sedation for cardioversion, and status epilepticus
Phenytoin
C- anticonvulsant (sodium channel blocker)
D-dervaritive related to phenobarbital that reduces the spread of electrical discharges in the motor cortex and inhibits seizures.
It also has antidysrhythmic properties that counteract the effects of digitalis.
I- seizures, status epilepticus, or cardiac dysrhythmias secondary to digitalis toxicity.
Dilantin
C- anticonvulsant (sodium channel blocker)
D-dervaritive related to phenobarbital that reduces the spread of electrical discharges in the motor cortex and inhibits seizures.
It also has antidysrhythmic properties that counteract the effects of digitalis.
I- seizures, status epilepticus, or cardiac dysrhythmias secondary to digitalis toxicity.
Mannitol
C-osmotic diuretic
D- mannitol is an osmotic diuretic that draws water into the intravascular space through its hypertonic effects, and then causes diuresis.
I- cerebral edemau
Osmitrol
C-osmotic diuretic
D- mannitol is an osmotic diuretic that draws water into the intravascular space through its hypertonic effects, and then causes diuresis.
