CDH 4.4 Flashcards
When is antibiotic cover required for avulsed teeth?
When they have fallen on the floor and are likely to have collected bacteria
What substance is placed at an open root apex of a permanent extirpated tooth? and how much?
MTA
4-6mm approx
What is the trauma stamp for an injury to teeth?
Mobility Displacement Colour TTP Sinus Thermal and electric pulp tests Radiographs
What can happen to teeth when they have significant PDL damage?
Can lead to resorption
If can not clinically see enamel fractures, how can you determine if there are any?
Radiograph possibly
Shining a bright light behind tooth
What is the purpose of a composite bandage if a tooth has incured injury?
Seals dentine
Not aesthetic
What is the purpose of a partial pulpotomy compared to a full or coronal pupotomy in growing permanent teeth?
Partial - removes 2-3mm of pulp tissue through exposure site which is more successful
Keeping vital pulp tissue in canal to allow normal root growth in root length and dentine thickness
What is the average time closure of an open apex pulpectomy?
9-12 months
But MTA gains on this time
What is the worst and good prognosis’ of a full root fracture?
Apical 1/3 = good prognosis
Coronal 1/3 = worst prognosis
What is the treatment of full root fractures?
Un-displaced/non-mobile = soft diet and monitor vitality
Displaced = reposition coronal portion and flexible splint for 4 weeks
Mobile = flexible splint for 4 weeks
If coronal 1/3 fracture may require splinting up to 4 months
What is the evidence of rigid splinting instead of flexible?
Rigid has no benefit in terms of vitality and hard tissue union
What is the management of root fracture and pulp necrosis?
Extirpate to fracture line and induce calcific barrier there
