Diagnostic Criteria for Autism Spectrum (from DSM-5)
A. Persistent deficits in social communication and interaction
B. Restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities
C. Symptoms must be present in early developmental period
D. Symptoms cause clinically significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of current functioning
E. These disturbances are not better explained by intellectual disability/disorder or global developmental delay.
Diagnostic Criteria for Social (Pragmatic) Disorder
A. Persistent difficulties in the social use of verbal and nonverbal communication
B. The deficits result in functional limitations in effective communication, social participation/relationships, academic achievement, and/or occupational performance
C. The onset of the symptoms is in the early developmental period
D. Symptoms are not attributable to another medical or neurological condition, are not better explained by ASD, intellectual disability, global developmental delay, or other mental disorder
Articulation disorders vs phonological disorders
- Articulation disorder is motor-based and affects single consonants
- Phonological disorder is sound system based and affects processes of sound production

Three purposes of information-getting interview
- obtain data
- convey information
- provide release and support
