what is a dysfunctional thought diary
It’s like a homework
people are told to write down how they are feeling leading up to a negative event.
they then have to rate this event and the when in the therapy session re-rate that thought with a rational thought.
what is cognitive reconstructing
The therapist and the client identify and change negative thinking into positive thinking.
they also learn how to challenge dysfunctional thoughts by questioning that thought
for example ‘whats the worst thing that could happen’
what is pleasant activity planning
the client schedule’s 1 positive thing to do per day in order to give the person a sense of accomplishment and explore a different routine hopefully resulting in positive emotions and gives them a distraction from negative thoughts.
what is minimalisation
downplaying a positive though
example-‘you look nice’
shes only saying that because i look like the worst one here.
what is magnification
blowing things out of proportion
example-‘see you later’
what if i don’t see you later what if i never see you again.
