CBT
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy: Using thoughts and beliefs to determine a client’s problems and relief. If you can change the way you think, you can change the way you feel.
CBT Assessment
- Compile problematic behavior inventory
- Identify priority problems and the conditions that maintain them.
- Identify the contingencies existent for the provision of consequences.
- Observe and record behavioral exchanges
- Secure commitments from family.
- Identify behavior targets for change.
CBT Intervention
A program for change is implemented. Formulate a contingency contract. (New target behavior, antecedent events, and consequences)
Reframing
Altering thoughts feelings and behaviors through use of metaphors, imagery, and narratives. This changes the perception and meaning of events and the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors associated with that event.
Antecedent events
conditions that exist immediately before target behavior.
Thought replacement
interrupting or removing problematic recurring thoughts
Narrative Therapy
Using storytelling to help the individual separate from their problems.
Problem Saturated Story
Narratives (stories) clients tell themselves about their lives that are full of negative assumptions, self-defeating ideas, etc.
Cognitive Restructuring
The process of challenging and changing irrational thoughts. Socratic questioning is used to ask probing questions
Unique Outcomes
Contradicting details in a client’s problem saturated story that can be used to reach the client.
