Component of a simple cognitive model
Situation/Event.
Automatic thoughts.

Automatic Thoughts are:
Almost always are negative. Are overgeneralizations. Distort reality. Seem to occur spontaneously. May barely enter awareness. Are believed to be true. Sometimes coexist with images.
Triggering Events
External event. Stream of thoughts. Emotion. Behavior. Sensations.
Evaluating Automatic Negative Thoughts
Test its validity.
Look for other interpretations.
Decatastrophize the situation (worst case).
Recognize the impact it has.
Get distance from it (perspective taking).
Engage problem-solving.
