Red blood count
RBC
Measurements of red blood cells (erythrocytes) per cubic millimeter of blood
White blood count
WBC
this tests counts the number of white blood cells that are present in the blood to fight disease causing organisms, often used in the diagnosis of infection
Hemoglobin
*HB/Hgb
Oxygen carrying pigment of blood that gives it it’s red colour. This test may determine the need for additional blood or it may aid in diagnosing of anaemia
Hematocrit
Hct
A measurement of the volume percentage of red blood cells in whole blood
Platelet count
The count of cells (platelets) which are essential for the coagulation process to take place
Differential
Diff
Reports the various types of WBC (leukocytes) found in blood specimen. Manual differential must be specifically orders by the physicians. An automated diff is done on all CBC’s
