CB7 Animal Coordonation, Control And Homeotasis Flashcards
What does the hormonal system do
Uses chemical messengers called hormones which are carried by the blood different hormones are released by a range of endocrine glands
E.g pituitary, thyroid, adrenals, testes and pancreas
How long is the female mesatral cycle
28 days
What is you metabolic rate
Is the rate at which energy is stored in your food by all the reaction that take place to keep your body alive
How is the resting metabolic rate measured
With your body at rest in a warm room lying after a person has had their last meal
What is one hormone that effects you r metabolic rate
Thyroxin
Where is thyroxin released
Thyroid gland
What does thyroxin do to the heart
It causes the heart cells to contract more rapidly and strongly
What does thyroxin do to the pro times and carbohydrates
It increases the rate at which the proteins and carbohydrates are broken down in the cells
Where is adrenaline released from
Adrenal glands
What does adrenaline do
In frightening situations an increase in impulses from neurones reaching the adrenal glands which triggers the release of large amounts of adrenaline into the blood
What is glycogen
Is a polymer made of glucose molecules when glycogen is broken down the glucose molecules can be released into the blood providing more glucose for respiration
What is the menstural cycle controlled by
Oestrogen and progesterone
What is the release of hormone controlled by
Oestrogen
What does an increase on oestrogen do during the menstural cycle
Increases the thickning of the wall
What does homeotosis
Temperature control
Water content control
