1st and 2nd Balkan Wars
1912-13:Serbia,Bulgarian,Greece and Montenegro formed the Balkan league who’s goal was to drive Turks from Europe. Turks didn’t expect the attack because they were distracted by internal resolution.
Franco-Prussian War
1870-71:Group of German states led by Prussia defeated France, ending France’s rule over Europe and ended up unifying Germany
First Moroccan Crises(Tangier Crises)
1905-06:Germany stated they supported Morocco independence after France had just gained control over Morocco from Britain and Spain. This caused tension between Germany and other countries involved
Spanish-American war
1898: fought between US and Spain,ended with Spain losing its overseas empires and US becoming a global power, ended with treaty of Paris
Triple Entente Formed
1907: due to the agreement of between Britain and Russia+Britain and France, the triple entente of France, Britain and Russia formed
Meiji Restoration
1868-89: revolution in Japan that made the general lose his power, the country switched to imperial ruling, ran by emperor Meiji, transforming Japan
Russo-Japanese War
1904-05:japan forced Russia out of their East Asian expansion policy, becoming 1st Asian power to defeat European power
Wilhelm 11 proclaimed Kaiser
1888:Wilhelm father Frederick died from his illness and Wilhelm 11 became emperor of Germany
Triple alliance
1892-1915:Germany and Austria-Hungary made an alliance with Italy to stop Italy from taking sides with Russia
Naval arms race
1898-1912: 2 or more countries consistently building more and more powerful militia then the newest before. Lead to growth of militarism and caused high tensions
Schleifen Plan
Aug 1914:Plan for Germany to attack the threat of Russia and France by rapid attack on France through Belgium, then attacking Russia by rail
Berlin-Baghdad railway
1905-40: railway built to increase trade to and from Germany with other parts of the world, tensions were caused by this because of Germany becoming more powerful
1905 revolution
1905-07:political and social unrest against the tsar, wanted russia to turn from an autocracy to a monarchy, spread throughout Russian empire
Scramble for Africa
1880-1914:European powers competed to get as much control of Africa as they could get, wanted them as part of their separate empires
Pan-slavism
1801-1900:movement that wanted to unite people with a similar Slavic background, causing tension between Austria and Serbia,because of threat it posed
