Sugar Act:
Passed on April 5, 1764 without colonist consent. The british raised taxes on sugar. Colonists called it taxation without representation. The money was going to England instead of the colonies
Navigation Act:
The colonists could only ship raw materials on English ships and buy goods that come off do English ships
Why did the British tax the colonists?
The british lost money because of the French and Indian War.
Stamp Act:
Passed in November, 1765. This imposed taxes on all legal documents…. Marriage license, newspaper, property deeds, playing cards, contracts, ect….. You pay a tax to receive a stamp/British seal on those important documents. Because of this act, a group was formed called the Sons of Liberty.
Quartering Act (where people sleep or live)
First occurred on March 24, 1765. Forcing colonists to provide housing and food to british troops. The soldiers did not have t pay for what they used or took (as a solider: I like that coat, I will take it for free).

Allowed custom officials to search anywhere for smuggled goods
Tea Act
Passed on May 10, 1773. Allowed the British East India Company to sell tea to the colonies without the usual colonial tax. It granted a monopoly on the trade in America to the East Indies Company. The colonists had to buy tea only from that company. This led to widespread boycotts of tea throughout the colonies.
Townshend Act
Passed in 1767. Imposing new taxes on colonists. Taxes on lead, paper, paint, glass, and tea imported from the colonists.
Boston Massacre
Occurred in 1770. The townspeople pelted snowballs at guards (and then) Shots were fired. 11 colonists were hurt and 5 killed. Crispus Attucks-black man; first martyr
Boston Tea Party
Took place in 1773. The crowd dressed as Indians. Boarded 3 vessels. They threw about 10,000 pounds of tea overboard as a protest of the tax on tea.
Intolerable Acts
Were passed by parliament in 1774 as a reply to the Boston Tea Party. These acts were passed to have more power over the colonists.
