Why did the British tax the colonists
The British lost money because the French and Indian War
Navigation Act
The colonies could ship raw materials on English ships and buy goods that come off of English ships

Passed on April 5, 1764 without colonist consent.

The Tea Act(law)
Passed on May 10, 1773
Allowed the British East India Company to sell tea to the colonies without the usual colonial tax
It granted a monopoly on the trade in America to the East India Tea Company
The colonies had to buy Tea from that Company
This act led to widespread boycotts of Tea throughout the colonies
- Quartering Act
First occurred on March 24, 1765
Forcing colonists to provide housing and food for the British troops
The soldiers would not have to pay for anything they used or took
- Townshend Act
Passed 1767
Imposing new taxes on colonies
Taxes on lead, paper, paint, glass, and tea imported by the colonies
