Causes of Climate Flashcards
Atmospheric circulation
At 60 degrees warm, moist air creates rain clouds for the Dfc climate; at 80degrees the air is descending creating low pressure and therefore no precipitation.
Altitude
Temperature decreases 1 degree every 100m; which is caused by the light reflected off the Earth which loses energy as it goes up.
Albedo
Snow reflects light as its white. 80% with fresh snow and 20% is reflected with forests.
Katabatic winds
Cold winds from the middle of the continent move to the edges, moving down a gradient becoming denser.
Orographic (relief) rainfall
Rain falls on windward slope; creating a dry leeward slope.
Cold ocean currents
Cold moisture less air moves from the sea into the land.
Latitude and angle of the sun
The angle of incidence is very low, meaning the sunlight is spread over a larger area; lowering insulation.
