The South had slaves and farmlands/ plantations

They had bigger factories and newer technology in Britain so they could produce more products compared to the small factories in the North.
Why did the North want high tariffs and the South want low tariffs?
North wanted high tariffs so Southerns would buy US goods.
The South wanted low tariffs because goods from Britain were cheaper.

Senator Henry Clay proposed MO compromise. MO Compromise-MO becomes a slave state and MO Compromise Line was created.
