- inhibit inflammatory response (induce lipoprotein and inhibit IL-2 transcription)
- DIABETOGENIC - decreases insulin sensitivity, increases hepatic gluconeogenesis and decreases glucose utilisation
- increases lipolysis and proteolysis
- enhances vascular responsiveness to catecholamines
- increases GFR
