Catullus 10 Flashcards
Varus me meus ad suos amores visum duxerat e foro otiosum,
My Varus had led me, at leisure, from the forum to see his loves, the little whore as she seemed then immediately to me, surely not un-charming and unattractive.
Huc ut venimus, incidere nobis sermones varii: in quibus, quid esset iam Bithynia; quo modo se haberet; et quonum mihi profuisset aere.
As we came here, various conversations fell on us, in which, what is Bithynia now, how was it holding itself, had it profited me with what bronze.
I replied that which it was, that there was nothing for they themselves, nor the praetors, nor the cohort was there nothing where by anyone would bring back an oiled head, especially for whom the governor was an irrumator and held the cohort to the value of a hair.
They say, “But certainly however, that which it is said you bought what is said to be born there, men for a litter.” I, so that I would make myself one of the luckier ones to the girl, “It was not so badly for me that, because a bad province had fallen to me, that I was not unable to buy eight up right men.”
But there was none for me neither here nor there, who was able to place the broken foot of an old cot on his neck. At this point, that one, as befit as a rather slutty girl, “I ask my Catullus” she said to me “Lend those to me for a short while, for I want to be carried down to the temple of Serapus.”
“Mane,” inquii puellae, “istud quod modo dixeram me habere, fugit me ratio: meus sodalis Cinna est Gaius - is sibi paravit; verum utrum illius an mei, quid ad me?
I said to the girl, “wait, that which I said that I had just now, reason flees me. My companion, Gaius Cinna, he obtained them for himself truly whether that ones or mine, what is it to me?
I use them as well as if I obtained them for myself. But you are awfully stupid and annoying, through whom if not permitted to be careless.
