College of cardinals get together to elect a new Bishop of Rome you have to be under 80. They enter the Papal Conclave where they vote until 2/3 if the votes are agreed on. If they don’t choose them each vote then black smoke comes from the chimney when the burn them once they pick one they burn the paper and white smoke comes out and bells are rung meaning there is a new pope
