Led by earl of Westmoreland and Northumberland
Planned to dethrone Elizabeth and Mary to marry duke of Norfolk.
Failed due to lack of planning and support
Northumberland beheaded, Westmoreland died in poverty, Norfolk released

Spanish army would come to help overthrow Elizabeth and put Mary on the throne
Cecil and walsingham uncovered the catholic plot
Norfolk found guilty due to involvement and executed

Throckmorton planned to overthrow Elizabeth
Release Mary and put her on the throne
Mary had no evidence linking her to plot but Cecil became suspicious and her mail was checked

Babington wrote letters to Mary to plan the plot in code

Babington executed, walsingham had proof of Mary’s involvement

No further action- Philip was already planning invasion
