What are the literacy forms of the Bible
Laws - shows the Israelites inability to be faithful
Proverbs - an invisible force in the universe
Letters - written by the apostles, many by St Paul
What is the significance of the Bible
Contains the 10 commandments - basic guidelines for Catholics, helping them to know what they should and shouldn’t do
Reveals the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus - “Gave up his life for a ransom for many” (Bible) - helps Catholics to understand the place of salvation in their lives
What are different views about the Bible
Catholics - reveals God through the Old and New Testament showing his character and commands so it should be followed
Fundamental - take every word literally
Liberal - written by humans with inspiration from the Holy Spirit
What are the levels of the magisterium
Ordinary:
Bishops of the church
Teach the basics of the Catholic faith
Conicular:
All bishops
Discuss Church teachings and issues
Pontifical:
The Pope
Makes a papal infallible where the Pope will consult with bishops beforehand
What is the significance of the magisterium
Highest authority for Catholics - “The task of interpreting the Word of God authentically has been entrusted solely to the magisterium” (CCC) - makes sure that there isn’t any conflict
Gives answers to Catholics to issues that didn’t exist during the apostles’ time - some don’t know what to do about IVF
What is the Dei Verbum
Focuses on the relationship between tradition and the Bible
Tradition and Scripture should be used to help understand God’s revelation
The Bible should be read taking the culture of the writers and different types of writings
“Sacred Scripture and the Magisterium…are so connected that one of them can’t stand without the other” (Dei Verbum)
Reminds Catholics that the Bible was a product of its time
What is the Lumen Gentium
Focuses on the Catholic beliefs of the Church
Discussed the possibility of salvation for non Christians/theists
Emphasises the role of ordinary Catholics (practice the sacraments and help the Church grow)

Focuses on humanity’s relationship to society, e.g. economics and poverty

What are the Four Marks of the Church
One - one baptism for the forgiveness of sins
Holy - source of the sacraments which brings God’s grace to humanity
Catholic - universal, includes people who believe from all over the world - “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Bible)
Apostolic - authority of St Peter has been passed down by Apostolic Succession to the current Pope
What is the Church as the Body of Christ
The people are the Body
The consecrated host is the Body
The Church is a unified Body
“For in the one Spirit we were all baptised into one Body” (Bible)
What is the Church as the People of God
God loves all people but not all believe or seek a relationship with him
The new covenant in Christ is seen as a call to people to join together
“The desire for God is written in the human heart” (Bible)
How is Mary a model of faith and discipleship
Had total faith in God - “I am the servant of the Lord” (Bible) - didn’t question his decision
Sang The Magnificat - illiterate and foretells future events, e.g. feeding of the 5000

Believed that Jesus was the Son of God before he did miracle
Gave up her life and career to bear God’s Son when she could’ve refused

How is Jesus a source for moral teachings
Jesus - helped the needy, e.g. feeding of the 5000 - “Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated” (Bible)
