Categories of Points - Intro Lecture Flashcards
What are the 5 Shu Points?
Jing-Well Ying-Spring Shu-Stream Jing-River He-Sea
Where are the Shu Points located?
Below elbows & knees
What is the Shu point where qi eminates?
Jing-Well
Where are the Jing-Well points located?
Located on the tips of the fingers or toes
with the exception of KD1
What is the Shu point where qi glides?
Ying-Spring
Where are the Ying-Spring points located?
Located mostly distal to the metacarpo-phalangeal
or metatarso-phalangeal joints (with the exception of
LU10, HT8, PC8, KD2)
What is the Shu point where Qi pours?
Shu-Stream
Where are the Shu-Stream points located?
Proximal to the
metacarpo-phalangeal or metatarso-phalangeal
joints (with the exception of LU9, HT7, PC7, KD3)
What is the Shu point where Qi flows?
Jing-River
Where are the Jing-River points located?
wrists/ankles
What is the Shu point where Qi enters inward?
He-Sea
Where are the Jing-River points located?
Around elbows or knees
What is the element of the Jing-Well on a Yin channel?
Wood
What is the element of the Jing-Well on a Yang channel?
Metal
What do you use Jing-Well points for?
Fullness below the Heart
What do you use Ying-Spring points for?
Heat in the body
What do you use Shu-Stream points for?
Heaviness of the body
Pain of the joints
What do you use Jing-River points for?
Cough
Dyspnea
Chills
Fever
What do you use He-Sea points for?
Counterflow of Qi
Diarrhea
What do the Ying-Spring and Shu-Stream points treat?
The channels
What do the He-Sea points treat?
The internal Fu-organs
What do Jing-Well points treat?
- Clearing heat, restoring consciousness and rescuing collapse:
coma, fainting, collapse from stroke or high fever
-The uppermost reaches of channels:
acute Full-Heat in the head and face
-Disorders of spirit:
mania, insomnia, nightmares, somnolence
-Fullness below the Heart: fullness and pain of the chest
What do Ying-Spring points treat?
Clearing heat, esp. from the uppermost portion of the channel: Heat in the head and face
Paired with Shu-Stream point of the same channel:
Based on the theory of “the Ying-Spring and Shu-Stream points treat the channels”
What do Shu-Stream points treat?
points of the Yin channels, also known as Yuan-Source points, are primary points for tonifying and harmonizing the respective Zang-organs
Shu-Stream points of the Yang channels have important actions on the respective channels
Heaviness of the body and pain of the joints
What do Jing-River points treat?
To treat cough and dyspnea, chills and fever
To treat diseases manifesting in voice: loss of voice, manic raving, incessant talking, laughter, sighing
To treat diseases of sinews and bones
What do He-Sea points treat?
To treat counterflow of Qi and diarrhea
To treat diseases of the Fu-organs: primarily He-Sea pts on the legs, esp. Lower He-Sea (ST36, BL40, GB34; ST37, ST39, BL39)
To treat diseases of the skin: LI11, BL40, PC3, TW10, LV8, KD10
Where are Yuan Source points locate?
Around wrists/ankles
How many Yuan Source points are there?
12
Where are Yuan Source points located on Yin Channels?
same as the Shu-Stream points, usually the 3rd point from the distal end of the channel
What do Yuan Source points located on Yin Channels treat?
Tonify and regulate Zang-organs
Where are Yuan Source points located on Yang Channels?
between the Shu-Stream and Jing-River points
usually the 4th point from the distal end of the channel (Exception: GB40-the 5th)
What do Yuan Source points located on Yang Channels treat?
Dispel excess and regulate channels
What are the Luo-Connecting points?
where the Luo-Connecting channels diverge from the 12 Primary channels
How many Luo-Connecting points are there?
15
What are the 3 extra Luo-Connecting points?
CV15: for the Conception Vessel (REN) GV1: for the Governing Vessel (DU) SP21: the great Luo-Connecting point
