What are the three subcategories of connective tissue
Connective tissue proper, supporting connective tissue, fluid connective tissue
Subcategories of connective tissue proper
Loose connective tissue and dense connective tissue
Subcategories of supporting connective tissue
Cartilage and bone
Subcategories of fluid connective tissue
Blood and lymph
Types of loose connective tissue
Areolar, adipose, reticular
Types of dense connective tissue
regular, irregular, elastic
Types of cartilage
Hyaline, fibrocartilage, elastic
Types of bone
Compact, spongy
Why is loose connective tissue loose?
extracellular matrix is organized into loose strands and it is loosely woven
Why is dense connective tissue dense?
Because of its densely packed collagen fibers and it contains less ground substance
What is the function of areolar connective tissue?
-support structure for the epithelium.
- prevention of infection.
- framework that supports and keeps important structures in place.
What cells do areolar tissue contain
fibroblasts, macrophages, and mast cells.
Fibroblast function
Creates fiber
What is the function of adipose
Warmth, padding, absorbs shock and prevents heat loss
Where is adipose located?
Under the skin of the sides, butt, breasts, kidneys
