Q

how do catalysts work ?

A

by providing a different pathway for the reaction (one with a lower activation energy )so they reduce the activation energy for the reaction .

Q

how do catalytic converters work ?

A

they help reduce the number of polluting gases. it provide a larger surface area for the reaction to take place

Q

what are the two steps of catalytic converters ?

A

1.the gases form weak bonds with the metal atoms of the catalyst (called absorption )these hold the gases in just the right position to react .they react on the surface.
2.they products then break away from the atoms of the metal (called desorption ). this frees up room on the catalysts surface for more reactions to take place .
