Cat On A Hot Tin Roof Flashcards
Living with someone you love can be lonelier- than living entirely alone! If the one that y’ love doesn’t love you…
-WHO SAYS THIS AND WHAT IS SHE TALKING ABOUT?
Margaret says this and is talking about that she lives with Brick and he doesn’t love her anymore because she had become fatter and older.
When marriages goes on the rocks, the rocks are there, right there!
WHO SAYS THIS AND WHAT IS HAPPENING AND WHAT IS THE SPEAKER IMPLYING?
Big Mama says this to Margaret implying that Brik’s and Margaret’s marriage is over and has been for a long time.
Brick drinks heavily to gain the “click”. What is he trying to accomplish with this click he talks about.
He is trying to get drunk and then life doesn’t have any worrying or thinking.
Big Daddy - his views on living in a lie, the life of mendacity…what does he think about it?
He doesn’t like it but he says that that’s the only way to live. He has lied to everybody that he cares for, Big Mama, Gooper, May and their five kids.
Talk about the friendship between Brick and Skipper.
Brick and Skipper were best friends and always together. But whatBrick didn’t know was that Skipper was in love with him.
What is the probable cause of Skipper’s taking his own life?
Because he was gay.
The house of Big Daddy’s is said to be haunted by the previous owners. How and in what way then?
?
Enter Big Daddy - Big Mamais described on p. 48. How is their relationship? Describe it.
?
Why does William cripple his hero? How does Brick’s injury function in the play. Consider his recount of the event and how various characters make use of it?
Because he makes Brick seem vulnerable and easy to understand. They make use of it by taking his clutch so he’s stuck and so that he listens to them and does what they want him to do.
What sort of a relationship does Big Daddy have with his two sons? Give example for support.
Big Daddy’s relationship with his two sons are very different. Gooper is the older one and was never good enough. Big Daddy finds his wife and 5 kids very annoying and doesn’t really like them. Brick is the one and only, but doesn’t really have that good relationship with his father either. When their talking Big Daddy always talks and Brick listens. Maybe that’s why Big Daddy loves Brick more than Gooper, because he listens.
The Mediterranean/North Africa comes up in the play. In what context? What is the importance of introducing this topic in the play?
?
How does Gooper anger the other members of the family in this act? What interplay is there between him and Big Mama?
He has started to think about who gets his father’s property before he is even dead. Big Mama is like Big Daddy and loves Brick more. She thinks it’s to early to think about who gets the land but if it was to be anyone it should be Brick.
Why does Brick go along with Maggie’s lie at the end of scene 3?
Béa cause he was way to drunk and to make big Daddy happy.
With whom do our sympathies lie at the end of the play? Who comes out ‘on top’? To who are we ment to relate in this play?
?
What happens when Brick tells Big Daddy about Skipper? Who seems more to be more homophobic?
Big Daddy takes it pretty well and isn’t that surprised. It seemed to me that Brick was more homophonic than Big Daddy.
