Abyssinians
- Grows soft, silky hair that is medium in length.
- May be ruddy, red, blue, or fawn.
- Are ticked with many different colors throughout the coat.
Characteristics: active, busy, playful, and loving.
American Curls
- Known for their strange ears that curl backward rather than standing upright and coming to a point.
- Can be either shorthaired or longhaired and can be any color or pattern.
Characteristics: joyous, sociable, loving, family-oriented, and intelligent.
American Shorthairs
- Grows short, thick hair.
- Can be solid colors, particolored, shaded, and smoked colors, and tabby.
Characteristics: loving, quiet, gentle, good with children, and good hunters.
Balinese
- Similar to Siamese cats, but their main difference is their coat length.
- Grows a long, silky coat with seal, chocolate, blue, and lilac color points.
Characteristics: vocal, outgoing, demanding, loyal, and intelligent.
Birmans
- Grows a plush single-length coat in various colors.
- Develops their color as they mature.
Characteristics: sociable, loving, soft-spoken, quiet, gentle, and companionable.
Burmese
- Grows short hair.
- May be sable, champagne, blue, or platinum in color.
- Has yellow eyes.
Characteristics: affectionate, active, playful, vocal, and trusting.
ColorPoint Shorthairs
- Grows short, smooth coats, which can be a variety of colors and points.
- Highly resembles Siamese cats in body composition.
Characteristics: intelligent, vocal, stubborn, and affectionate.
Cornish Rexes
- Grows a short, wavy coat and can have a variety of colors and patterns.
- Resulted from a natural mutation, causing wavy coat hair and curly whiskers.
Characteristics: intelligent, active, clever, outgoing, and playful.
Devon Rexes
- Grows a wavy, loose curled coat, which can be any color or variety of colors.
- The hair on their ears resembles earmuffs.
- Has high cheekbones, large eyes, and large ears.
Characteristics: mischievous, intelligent, and active.
Domestic Longhairs
- Are not recognized as a cat breed, but are recognized as cats of unknown and mixed origins.
- Grows a long, silky coat that can be a variety of colors, lengths, and textures.
- Grows an undercoat which makes the cat appear larger in size.
Characteristics: varies from cat to cat, some may be playful, and friendly. While others can be timid, and independent. It is difficult to determine since these cats are not from a specific origin or breed, which creates a barrier to decide common behavioral characteristics.
Egyptian Mau’s
- Grows a medium-length coat that can vary in texture.
- Can be the coat colors silver with charcoal markings,
bronze with dark brown or black markings, and smoke gray with black markings.
Characteristics: gentle, reserved, affectionate, sensitive, athletic, observant, and intelligent.
Exotic Shorthairs
- Resembles Persians, but has a short coat length, and can be a variety of colors or patterns.
Characteristics: peaceful, content, loving, independent, and loyal.
Havana Browns
- Are an extremely rare breed of cats.
- Grows a short, silky, solid brown coat that does not shed much.
- Color can range from chocolate to a mahogany color.
- Are also characterized by their green eyes.
Characteristics: human-oriented, playful, and curious.
Maine Coons
- Grows long hair in various colors.
- Can withstand warm and cold climates.
- Are one of the largest cat breeds.
Characteristics: loyal, fun-loving, good-natured, great with children, and social.
Manx Cats
- Grows a short, dense double coat.
- Can be any color.
- Has a rounded back and shortened tail.
Characteristics: intelligent, playful, loving, great with children, and great with other pets.
