The function of the castle
The castles were homes of royal or powerful families. their use was to protect the people who lived there.
Name the main parts of the castle

- curtain wall

- inner/outer walls
What was the purpose of a moat?
A moat is used as a line of defence. It is used so the attackers can’t walk straight into the castle.
What was the purpose of the curtain wall?
They were a set of walls, which protected the interior of the castle.
What was the purpose of a dungeon?
The dungeon was used to hold prisoners and was usually located in the basement.
What was the purpose of the inner and outer walls?
They provided protection across the whole castle. There were sometimes both walls as an extra aspect of protection.
