Cassandra E. Flashcards
Midterm study tool
Anatomy study
Macroscopic (surface, regional, sectional, clinical, systemic) & Microscopic (histology, cytology)
Physiology
4 studies
1) cell (how cells function)
2) organ (how organs function)
3) systemic (study how systems work together)
4) Pathological (how disease effects organ systems)
How can you study the body
1) invasive
2) low tech
3) hightech medical imagining
Invasive techniques
surgery or autopsy
Low tech techniques
visual inspection, palpitation, auscultation, percussion (usually used with auscultation)
High tech techniques
x-ray, computed tomography, Digital subtraction angiography, magnetic resonance imagine, ultra sound, positron emission tomography
Barium Dye
Radiopaque material (radioactive) that allows a more in-depth look into digestive tact or blood vessels/ arteries
What is the level of body organization
1) Chemical reactions
2) Cell functions
3) Tissue
4) organ
5) Organ system
6) Organism
Characteristics of Human Life
1) metabolism
2) growth
3) reproduction
4) Differentiation
5) Movement
6) responsiveness to stimuli
Define Homeostasis
- Body’s desire to keep dynamic equilibrium
- involves intrinsic and extrinsic regulation
- body always attempting to maintain set point
- two feed back loops 1) negative feed back 2) positive feedback
- receptor -> control center-> effector
Intrinsic regulation
- auto-regulation of bodies internal structures
- occurs in cells, tissues, organs
- an automatic response to internal stimuli
Extrinsic Regulation
- regulation of external environment that effect bodies homeostasis
- involved nervous system and endocrine system
- N.S. provides quick response that doesnt last long
- endocrine provides slower response but creates a longer result
Homeostatic imbalance
Can cause disorders (abnormality of organ functions) or disease ( signs and symptoms)
what would a clinician use to divide abdominopelvic sections?
abdominopelvic quadrants
right upper, left upper, right lower and left lower quadrants
What would an anatomist use to divide abdominopelvic areas into?
Abdominopelvic regions (9 regions) more persice
