CASEY 2011 Flashcards
what is the cookie task
Participants were given a cookie that was placed in front of them they were then told that they could either it is straight away or wait 15 minutes and then be rewarded with a second cookie.
results of the cookie task
It was found hat those who ate the cookie straight away were shown later in the rating scales to have been low delayers and then those who waited were shown to be high delayers. From this we can infer that it relies on the nature half of the nature vs nurture debate in psychology as it is a stable trait that has followed from childhood into adulthood. This can suggest that impulse control may be a biological trait that unfortunately we cannot change. High delayers were shown to be more successful in later life.
exp 1 - experimental method
quasi experiment
IV
IV - participants were either high or low delayers determined by self control scales and the cookie task
DV
performance on an impulse control task
- Accuracy
- Response latency - reaction time
