Diseases such as cholera and dysentery were spread through contaminated water supplies. This was contaminated by these diseases due to flood waters from decaying corpses and raw sewage.

They had no electricity for several weeks as the electricity supply was cut off to millions of people.

Why was the impact on life and property so great?
The Phillipeins is an LEDC, causing a lot of residents to be poor which means they can only afford wooden homes which can’t withstand strong winds.
However, even well built structures can be destroyed by a category 5 storm.
What issues did people have returning home after the storm?
They had to look out for dangerous animals in their homes , watch out for live wires and sockets and pour out any storm water containers as they were a breeding ground for mosquitos which spread disease.
