what can be noted about the development of the content of sexual health education since 1998?
was originally 42 pages in 1998.
in 2010, dalton mcguinty and kathleen wynne, of the liberal party revamped it to 233 page. however, it was shelved due to foreseen political opposition.
in 2015, kathleen wynne introduced a 244 page curriculum. was thought to be the most up to date in the country. however, there was a lot of controversy around this. many parents protested the change and even had their kids stay at home
in 2018, ford vowed to bring back the 1998 curriculum when running. he won, and did so. was also met with protest, but from the teachers’ union. proof that abstinence only education increased rates of teen pregnancy and STIs. was also met with backlash as no consultation with the public was conducted.
in 2019, a new version was created. similar to 2015 but it included the opinion of others. parents were allowed to exclude their kids from some of the sexual health education.
