CASE STUDY, Holderness Coast Flashcards
How rapid erosion causes threats
Where is the Holderness coast?
East coast of England in the East Riding of Yorkshire, borders the North Sea.
What is its geology?
Underlying the coast is bedrock made of cretaceous chalk. Covered by glacial till. The less resistant boulder clays erode quicker when saturated.
What is glacial till?
A soft boulder clay which is made from a mix of sand, slay+boulders carried by a glacier and deposited as ground moraine.
What type of coastline is it and how much does it erode per year?
Discordant, 2m(average)
What is Skipsea?
A rural, agricultural area of the Holderness coastline
What threats is Skipsea facing?
-Homes close to cliff edge are at high threat risk from erosion, homes likely to be destroyed.
-Lots of farmland which provides jobs+income
